Grow on Instagram. Reach a larger audience, make a bigger impact.Learn how to create effective Instagram Reels. Shoot less and edit faster.

There's no denying how popular short-form video 🎥 is. Reels are proven to boost reach and engagement. That’s why we're focusing on reel creation and especially the edit, to save you time and frustration. It will give you more time for all the other aspects of your business and to have time to rest, recharge and be offline.

I remember when I was first asked to shoot  a reel with a friend in October 2020, I had to scroll  all the way down to the bottom of my reels page to find it. That very first reel with my friend who is a talented chef was named “ the 3 best kitchen oils”. It’s cute, we are animated and get the message across. I only cringe a little when I hear us talking in the background because I forgot to add music and remove the camera audio. I took on the task to edit, but gee I had a hard time with; I just didn’t know how to use all the features yet. It was pretty frustrating, time consuming and overwhelming.

Many of us feel overwhelmed when diving into Instagram reel creation. The pressure to stand out, learn about the new features and creating engaging content can be daunting. Frustration often arises when you’re struggling to grasp the technical aspects of creating reels. From video editing 🎞️ to choosing the right music or adding a voiceover, it can feel pretty intimidating. And editing can be so time-consuming, before you know you are spending an hour trying to edit a less than 30 second reel. Sounds familiar? 😝

Here is the silver lining- with practice and some guidance, these frustrations can turn into valuable learning experiences. Remember, every expert was once a beginner!

For me personally: I kept practicing with reels during my career as a health coach and personal trainer but I wasn’t very consistent. What really made a difference was when I accidentally became the social media manager of a superfood pancake 🥞 company. I was supporting the launch of their products and when I completed my scope of work they asked if I wanted to work on their team. The founders had never done anything with social media and I had to teach them how to “think in reels” when they were shooting content because I had to edit it all and when you receive 50 videos and another 20 photos without a storyline it’s very time consuming to make something of it.

I will teach you what I learned during this time as a social media manager and as a content creator myself. Now it takes less than 10 minutes to edit a reel, and I will do my very best to teach you too how to crush editing IG reels with the following 3️⃣ strategies.

Three IG Reel Edit Strategies

1.     THINK IN REELS – What’s your story?

Creating engaging Instagram reels is visual storytelling. Think about the message you want to convey and structure your reel to lead the viewer through a brief but satisfying storytelling experience. Every story has a narrative arc. Think of it in three parts, the beginning, the middle, and the end. And let's talk about how to approach each.

The beginning. You've heard this word many times; the hook 🪝 . Start your reel with a compelling hook within the very first few seconds to grab the viewer's attention. It could be a question, a surprising visual, or an intriguing statement. This introduction is very important to your reel creation. You have to let viewers know what to expect and why they should keep watching.

The middle. Think about development. This is where you delve deeper into your content, provide information, context, or examples relating to your topic. A conflict or climax works well for short reels. This could be a problem you're addressing, a challenge you're overcoming, or a pivotal moment in your narrative.

The end. We're looking for resolution. Conclude your Reel by resolving the conflict or addressing the issue presented in the middle. Offer a solution, a key takeaway, or a final thought. And, include a call to action. Encourage your viewers to take a very specific action, such as liking the Reel, sharing it, or following your account for more content.

Instagram Reels are short, so storytelling should be concise and impactful. let's move on to strategy number two.

2. SHOOT LESS CONTENT 🎥

Now you have your storyboard in your mind, you can film just what you need. The shots that convey your story, ensuring that every clip serves a purpose. With fewer clips to review, it becomes so much easier to select more relevant shots for your reel. You don't have to sift through an overwhelming amount of footage, this makes the edit process so much more efficient.

3. QUICK ENGAGING EDITS ✂️

Quick engaging edits and transitions play a crucial role in making your Instagram reels captivating and visually appealing. Here are some key points to consider.

1. Jump cuts. Jump cuts involve quick transitions between shots of the same subject or scene. They create a dynamic and fast paced feel which is well suited for reels. Use jump cuts to eliminate pauses and keep your viewers engaged.

2. Speed effects. Use video effects like speed ramps (which means slowing down or speeding up a clip) to add visual interest and emphasize specific moments.

3. Text overlays. Incorporate text overlays to convey key messages, captions, or subtitles. These can be animated or presented in creative ways to enhance the narrative.

Ensure that your edits and transitions make sense in the context of your story. 📖 . They should help advance the narrative or emphasize key points. Ultimately, the goal is to use quick, engaging edits and transitions to create a visually stimulating reel that not only conveys your message but also keeps your audience entertained throughout its short duration.

By mastering these strategies and embracing the creative opportunities offered by Instagram Reels, you can save time, reduce frustration, and create content that not only stands out but also allows you to focus on the other important aspects of your health and wellness business. Remember, every expert was once a beginner, and with dedication and  practice you can shine in the world of Reel creation. So, shoot less, edit faster, and let your storytelling skills shine on Instagram.
