Two days ago, my friend Eliska Vydrova invited me to the cable park for a wake boarding session. Eliska kicks butt on a wakeboard and used to compete, so I was super excited and a little nervous, as I hadn’t been on a wakeboard in years.
Eliska gave me a quick run down on technique and before I knew I was sitting on the dock ready to be launched into the water. There was no time to re-consider, the cable pulled me off the dock and….. I got up right away Yay! I felt so good steering into the first turn feeling in control of my board.
I love all kinds of sports and prefer the ones that are outdoors and somewhat challenging. Playing on the water with friends is definitely in my top three favorite things to do!
An hour later after a few more start and multiple circles around the lakemy arms were trembling and feeling numb. I knew that I was probably going to be very sore the next day. When I woke up yesterday, I was surprised to feel that besides my arms, back and shoulders, my abs were very sore as well. The soreness got worse as the day progressed….so it was time to give my body the fuel and nutrients it needs to recover!
I made a vegetable juice with extra ginger, ate some raw nuts, pineapple and berries, all of which are known to be a great recovery food. Some other foods that are great to reduce soreness and muscle pain are, salmon, cherries and turmeric.
I can’t wait to get back on the water again, even if I’ll be sore again the next day….It’s worth it!
Take great care of your body and it will take great care of you
