When I walked into the Whole Foods market today, I was asked to sample some tangerines. I wasn’t really interested at first but when they told me that it was actually a battle between two different kinds of Tangerines I was in!
Bring it on! Clementines VS Satsumas.
The Clementines on my left grabbed my attention first as their skin had a deep orange color with a smooth and glossy appearance. In contrast to the Satsumas on my right, who had leathery skin and were dotted with large oil glands.
I sampled the Clementine first and liked the fact that it was seedless, juicy and sweet. This is just how I like my tangerines so I figured the poor Satsumas wouldn’t stand a chance. As I chewed down on a piece of Satsuma I experienced a flavorful juice explosion beyond any expectation! This tangerine was so much tastier! And so the Satsuma became the definite winner: Go Satsuma!
Lesson for today….never judge a Tangerine by its peel, it’s the inside that counts 😉
I just had to bring a bag of these Satsumas home as they make a perfect snack.
