While shopping for clothes in one of Amsterdam’s famous shopping streets I noticed a storefront that I hadn’t seen before. The outside of the store looked exclusive and as I approached I hoped that they would sell the sexy jeans I was trying to score. As I got closer to the store I realized that this wasn’t a clothing store at all, instead they were selling….cheese?
I walked into the store and was impressed by the amount of different cheeses, displayed in such way that it reminded me of an upscale designer store. I noticed all kinds of Gouda varieties that I had never seen before such as “red pepper Gouda” and “green pesto Gouda”. I sampled both these “Haute Fromages” and even though they tasted great, in my personal opinion, nothing beats a slice of “young” Gouda cheese.
If you are into cheeses I’m sure you’ll love Dutch Gouda! Their flavor varies from soft and creamy (young cheese) to hard and salty (mature cheese).
No matter what your taste in cheese is, there is a Gouda out there that will get you hooked after the first bite 😉
Fun fact: Dutch people express their LOVE for cheese by annually eating about 30 pounds (14 kilos) of this yellow goodness per person!
