What’s the idea behind your wonderful blog?
There’s scientific evidence that models are at increased risk towards developing an eating disorder. My aim is to stimulate and motivate these models to live a healthy lifestyle, while taking into account the requirements of the fashion industry.
What’s the definition of health for you?
For me health comes in three ways: mentally, socially and physically. These three concepts are strictly connected to each other and should all be taken care of to be in optimal health.
Do the models that you know eat well or rather not eat?
Most of them eat well, but some don’t or even don’t eat (enough) at all. The last group unfortunately is hard to identify, because not eating (enough) happens in silence. I’ve learned that this is partly due to the requirements of the industry in combination with a lack of knowledge on how to eat right and workout beneficially.
Do you count calories?
No. Been there, done that. I am not gonna lie; it works as a beast to restrict and count calories!
Do you weigh yourself?
No, numbers don’t say much me, I prefer to just look in the mirror and decide whether I am satisfied. I wish I could say that this doesn’t mean anything to me, that I only workout and eat healthily to feel good from the inside, but I have to admit: I do all of this to look good naked as well 😉
Do you diet?
No, I don’t diet. I am aware of the fact that someone else would think that I am, because when you open up my fridge, you’ll only find healthy stuff in there. But healthy to me, may be unhealthy to a person who only eats macrobiotic or raw foods.
How many times a week do you exercise?
Most weeks, 6 times a week. I keep my workouts short. It varies from 20 minutes to an hour.
What are your favorite sports?
I do many kinds of sport and I like to alternate them. I do kickboxing, power yoga, SynRgy360X, running and bootcamp.
What unhealthy food would you like to be healthy?
Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Me Up; I wish I had never discovered it.
What’s your all-time favorite food?
Apple slices topped with almond butter. Yum!
What do you cook if you want to impress your friends?
I cook my all-time favorite; Indonesian vegetarian Gado Gado. I make this with gluten-free buckwheat noodles that are naturally slightly sweet.
Describe your worst kitchen disaster:
I rather have many small disasters on a daily base, ‘cause I am quite clumsy. I let food burn while doing 10 things at once, put my notebook in the fridge, place a bag of nuts in the dish washer.
What’s the newest food related thing you discovered?
Raw camel milk! It should be the newest super food, so I am very curious toward its powers and benefits over other milks.
Do you have a favorite saying?
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. It’s a saying nested in Ayurvedic medicine. I find Ayurvedic medicine very inspiring.
Describe your ultimate dream job
For now I’d like to continue working on my website GreatBodySkin.com and keep combining this with modeling. I have an increased interest in supporting adolescent girls and young women, writing, organizing and sports and nutrition, so something in this field in the future would be ultimate.
Thanks Angela! Your passion for health and sharing your knowledge is wonderful! Models can be great role models! You certainly are!
